Posted October 7, 2020. The brake light issue could also be a fault on the BCM board, MK2s are renowned for leaking water from the heater onto the bcm board and corroding it. Disconnect the plugs on the bcm, one by one and see if you can see any corrosion on the terminals, top connections only.
Remove plastic engine cover. Locate filter and undo its protective cover. Undo 3 security bolts. Prize off electrical connector. Remove fuel line connectors, bung ends to avoid fuel loss. remove the filter body and replace with new. reconnect fuel lines. Refit the 3 security bolts. Attach electrical connection. On the Focus MK2/MK2.5 the keys can only be programmed using a suitable diagnostic system. On these vehicles it is not possible to program keys by using the procedure that worked on the MK1/MK1.5. just what i thought .cheers .saves me sitting in the car turning the ignition on and of like a loon .
