Yes I’m assuming you mean the auto scale function which boosts enemies levels to (or around) your current level. I would highly recommend this. As you complete quests in zones you will quickly find yourself out leveling certain areas / zones but find yourself with countless quests and locations remaining.

Forreference, with DLC's installed you can get way past level 40 just by completing the main story/side quests and fully exploring the map. Just FYI, hard mode trial of the gods will always be three levels above your current level. Side note; I’d recommend you get the dlcs, especially curse of the pharaoh.
