Why are NVIDIA cards better at ray tracing? However, there is one key difference. NVIDIA has a dedicated set of hardware cores, called RT cores, that handle real-time ray tracing in video games. On the other hand, AMD GPUs handle ray tracing using hardware cores that also perform other functions at the same time. Not necessarily true. Doable with some work. I'm running path tracing with RR, high textures, just about medium settings (screen space reflections off and crowd density low though), at 2560 x 1440, DLSS performance mode on a system with 32gigs of RAM, an i5-9600k OC'd to 5Ghz and a 3070 aorus master with Overclocks from MSI afterburner (hence the 'work') and get 40-45fps in the most demanding
